Search Engine Optimization Tip #10
Get Validated!
The term “validate” carries a lot of different meanings in business and in the web world. I’m going to actually cover two of its meanings in this one tip, so really you now have 10+ SEO tips from us!
First, validate your code for well formed HTML. The rules of HMTL have changed quite significantly over the years and it is no longer optimal for you or your webmaster to generate “tag soup” - ie messy, broken mark up. Although not a requirement from the search engines, both Google and Yahoo mention it in their guidelines for webmasters.
Second, validate your entire website through Google and Yahoo. This is a simple task that involves uploading a file to your website’s root directory or adding information to your meta tags.
Like many of the tips I’ve presented, this one also serves to build a level of trust with the search engines and lets them know that your site is a current, active, and functioning website. This is a major component in determining how often and how thoroughly your website gets crawled.
